Against my better judgement I’ve updated my old version 02 of Blix with AdSense and SEO to the latest WordPress version. Added widget support, tag support and fixed several code bugs that ruins the original Blix theme when used with the latest version of WordPress.
Although I’ve updated the SEO version of the Blix theme (download link below) to work with latest version of WordPress I’ve not added the same SEO improvements added to the paid for AdSense themes at Google AdSense SEO Themes and Templates. Also the AdSense options are not as good.
Comparatively speaking the new Blix with AdSense/SEO version 03 is as SEO optimized as a WordPress theme can be, version 02 of Blix with AdSense/SEO is around 80% SEO optimized (still really good, but I learnt a lot in the years between version 02 and version 03).
I’m afraid if you want the best, you’ll have to pay for it, so after you’ve tried out version 02 of Blix with AdSense/SEO and see how good it is, (probably the second best SEO/AdSense themes online today) check out my paid for SEO/AdSense themes under WordPress Themes section.
The free Blix AdSense theme below is version 02, my version 03 Blix theme is MUCH better optimised, more AdSense options (including targeted AdSense coding) and Blix code fixes for WordPress 2.5 (includes tags support), full widget ready and can be found at Blix with AdSense + SEO 03.
Free AdSense Ready Blix SEO Theme for WordPress
This is my first released WordPress theme, it’s Blix with Google AdSense ads added in what I’ve found the best locations for maximum ad revenue. This took quite a lot of effort to get working, but I think it was worth it.
There’s going to be at least two versions, the first the original Blix WordPress theme with just the Google Ads added (the one below). The second will include some SEO optimization so your WordPress blogs rank higher in Google (I’m an SEO Consultant after all :-)).
The latter theme will be harder to to do than the former since when I optimized the WordPress theme for this blog it involved hacking the WordPress code quite a bit (not just the theme pages). WordPress is brilliant from and SEO perspective (best SEO CMS I’ve found!), but it wasn’t built by an SEO, so there are few areas over looked.
For a WordPress theme to be useful to all I can’t expect novice users to be editing WordPress PHP files just to get AdSense/SEO working with the Blix theme! So will take some effort to get the SEO optimization in the theme files only!
So here it is WordPress Blix theme with Google AdSense Ads
The first screenshot shows the home page of Recycle For The Arts which I used to edit all Blix versions (currently using the Stallion SEO Theme) of this WordPress theme. You can see two of the three AdSense ad units in the screenshot, the third unit is located at the bottom (336×280 rectangle ad unit).
You will find the same AdSense ad units and placement for all archive type pages used by the Blix AdSense ready SEO theme.
The second screenshot shows a single post page, this is where individual posts are shown. You can see the three ad units, one at the top within the content (best place for a AdSense ad unit), one on the menu and the third at the bottom to catch users who might leave your site after reading a blog post.
In my experience it’s these pages that will create most AdSense revenue, especially the 250×250 square unit within the main blog post content.

There’s a simple fix for the header problem, edit the layout.css file and find-
/*display:none; This will hide the text in your header */
Below it change
padding-top:50px;
to
padding-top:50px;
padding-bottom:10px;
This adds a little padding below the header fixing the problem. This fix is added to the version 03 theme at Blix with AdSense + SEO 03 which is available for a small fee.
I’m using the version 03 theme on the site right now.

WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
This site is now using a new version of Blix with AdSense + SEO (version 03) which can be found at Blix Theme with AdSense and SEO 03.
The SEO optimisation of the new theme is much better, view source of this page and note how the first H1 header is no longer the blogs name, but the title of the post (from an SEO perspective much better).
View source of the home page or a monthly archive page and you get the original H1 type header (linking to the main page). These pages have no real keyword focus (home page should focus on the keywords used to name the blog). Category pages have the category name as the H1 header since that’s the main keyword/phrase those pages should be targeting.
I never liked how WordPress themes used a H1 header on all pages this way (not a good SEO use of them), but a solution didn’t come to me until recently.
I had similar misgivings about using headers on the menu as well, usually you’ll find a H2 (sometimes H3 or H4) headers used for sections on the menu. Unfortunately the sections names aren’t keywords (Pages, Archives, Categories, Blogroll, Meta etc…) and so the header SEO benefit was wasted.
This SEO problem is fixed in the new Blix theme (03) and all version 03 themes on the site above. Now menu sections receive no SEO benefit from headers allowing us to use a full set of headers within our posts for maximum SEO benefit.

WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
hi this theme work with new wordpress(2,3) ?
Not upgraded to 2.3 yet, so can’t be sure. Can say the Blix theme available for free from this page has problems with WordPress 2.2 and so expect the same problems with WordPress 2.3.
I’ve added various fixes that make Blix compatible with WordPress version 2.2 at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html and when I upgrade to WordPress 2.3 will fix any problems it generates (don’t anticipate any problems though).
I’m no longer updating any of the themes on this site, so I’m afraid if you want the AdSense/SEO version that’s compatible with WordPress 2.* you’ll need to buy it from my other site.
David
WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
this is a nice themes does it work with 2.3
Yes it works with WordPress 2.3, but with problems.
You’ll loose your about links (the page type links) and there’s a few small problems with the menu.
I’ve fixed these problems in version 03 that can be found http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html for a small fee.
Sorry, but the free themes on this site will no longer be updated, but will always be free.

Seo Dave can you help? I tried this template but made my site looked really messed up. I know its me and my inexperience. Can you help. What If i paid you to set it all up to look great then I can take it from there. Still want to use my Logo at the top. Email me.
Cheers, Mike
Hey David!
I have just installed your theme on my blog, thanks.
Is there any way I can add AdSense criteria methods so that I know what earnings are coming specifically from this blog?
Thanks!
Very Nice. I think it’s one of your better themes
Besides duplicating my content to make money off of my efforts, violating my copyrights, and possibly eliminating my site from the search engines as duplicate content, exactly what is it that you’re doing?
Don what are you referring to exactly?
Everything on this site is created by me except for the original code from the themes (which I don’t think you mean) that I used to make the AdSense themes.
Edit: If you find one of my AdSense themes being used on a site that is infringing copyright that’s not one of my sites. Thousands of webmasters have downloaded this theme and I’m sure some have used them to scrape content from other blogs like yours ignoring copyright notices. That is not the same as me setting up a blog to scrape content though.

WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
Really nice theme. I’m going to give it a go on my blog. Keep up the great work!
Hey dave i have been trying to upload some of your themes into my bluehost server but in some of them such as prosence, kubrick, ocadia, coneccion with google adsense and all of them are not working for me: everytime that i upload them i get this message:
Broken Themes
The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
Do you have any suggestions?
WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
Hello all,
please allow me to get down to business… I installed the theme pack in the theme directory. All of my themes are showing up but this one… I have attempted to install it on two of my sites and I am getting the same thing… Any suggestions?
Hi Dave,
thanks for this Theme, I’m using version 2. I promised myself making some adsense from it and then upgrade to v3.
Thanks
Héctor
I have not tried the free WordPress themes (called version 02) on this site in a 2.2, 2.3 or 2.5 WordPress installation because I use my version 03 AdSense/SEO themes at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/ on all my own sites and don’t really have the free time to keep the free AdSense themes up to date (in that time could build a new version 3 AdSense/SEO theme).
The free version 2 themes are good, the version 3 themes are great.
If you want the very best AdSense/SEO theme I’m afraid your going to have to buy it from my site above. I’ve put a LOT of work into the latest versions and can’t give them away for free anymore.
Fortunately I get quite a lot of orders so can keep the price low (under £20 a AdSense theme is a bargain). If you can’t afford £20 to increase your AdSense income you are not serious about making money from AdSense (that £20 will the recuperated in no time).

WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
I am trying to install a new theme in word press 2.0 but any theme i chose it comes up with an error “Broken Theme” and “style.css is unreadable”.
Any comments much appreciated.
Thank you for this theme! I am surely going to install this onto my blog when I migrate to the new server.

Blix WordPress Theme
I have installed it in my blog at http://www.bestbuyidea.com/. It looks very nice on the very first index page, but the sidebar become bottom bar when it shows the 2nd index page. Can anyone help me?
Basically, I like the design and ease of use very very much. Hope to solve this problem fast, and when I am ready (after I make some bucks from Adsense), I will definitely buy the version 03.
Good job! Thank you in advance.
WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
I am having the same problem as beaulife. My “about us” is coming like a regular post. Otherwise everything else is just great.
SEO Dave please help!
Blix WordPress SEO Theme
I haven’t installed the free version (version 02) of my Blix AdSense for over 6 months, I use the Blix (version 03) I sell at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html which has got a LOT of code fixes that needed fixing as WordPress updated. Also has better SEO coding and better AdSense coding, overall a better theme.
I have no idea why Beaulife site is wrapping like that, (I don’t think it’s blix at fault) about the only thing that comes to mind (assuming no custom code changes) is if you’ve used widgets they broke for the original Blix (and this free AdSense version) in WordPress 2.5. Remove all your widgets and see what happens.
It’s to do with the custom fuctions page used by original Blix. When widgets broke in my latest version of Blix (the one you can buy) I removed the custom functions page to fix it. The original Blix coding is not fully compatible with WordPress 2.*.
I don’t have the time to fix the issues with the free version of Blix with AdSense and as you can appreciate if I did there would be less reason for anyone to buy the better AdSense/SEO version of Blix (03) at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html and that doesn’t make financial sense.
If I updated just the code fixes it would be about 80% as good SEO wise as the new theme and I know people will tolerate that sort of SEO loss to save a little cash.
From the Blix version 03 sales page-
“Blix is the 2nd AdSense WordPress theme for this website and my third version of the WordPress theme Blix with AdSense and SEO. The first two versions lack the detailed AdSense options available with this version and several original Blix features no longer work in the latest WordPress releases.
As of WordPress version 2.1 Blix has had a few compatibility problems. My Blix AdSense theme below includes multiple fixes that fix the page navigation bar (just below the header, About, Contact links etc…) and the way recent posts are handled. Also fixed the problem with the header where the bottom of letters are cut off. You can see the result of these fixes at another site of mine -- More Earnings via Search Engine Optimization and Affiliate Marketing which uses the Blix theme with AdSense + SEO (version 03). ”
If you don’t wish to buy version 03 I’m afraid version 02 has the same problems you get with original Blix and I don’t plan to fix them in version 02.
I think the problems ash is reporting is the “the way recent posts are handled” bug I found and fixed. Basically when you list recent posts on your menu it also lists pages like the about page, which it shouldn’t. Required some detailed code changes to fix this issue in version 03.
Sorry I couldn’t be more help, but I can not support two sets of competing themes, if you had these problems with the paid version I’d do my best to help you fix them, but with a free theme I just don’t have the time.

WordPress Theme Blix Update
I must be mad, but I’ve updated the free version of Blix with AdSense/SEO version 02 theme to work with WordPress 2.5 correctly.
This means all those irritating recent post and pages bugs are fixed and the cut off the bottom of the header logo is fixed.
Widgets work
Tags work
Everything works correctly
I have not updated the SEO or AdSense options for version 02 of Blix.
If you want the very best SEO techniques (what I charge clients £500 a month for at http://www.seo-gold.com/seo-consultant) and the best AdSense options (round corners on ads, targeted AdSense coding, ability to change the size of ad units from one page within WordPress) you’ll have to buy version 03 of Blix with AdSense/SEO at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html
Download the free updated Blix above before I change my mind :)

that’s great
thanks a lot for great theme
Hello,
i’ve just installed this theme onto my blog. So far looks very nice. But i’ve got a problem on my xml sitemap generator. It said that those 2 files (xml & gz) can’t be accessed. I’m not sure why because on my other blog that plugin works just fine. Do you have the answer for this problem?
anyway, thx for the design. It really looks nice :)
How do I add an adsense channel to track my earnings for this blog? I see you can change the pub id, colors, etc but there is not place to add or replace a channel
Hello Gloria,
Have you got an answer regards the Adsense channel options?
Looking at all comments here & Dave replies -- seems to ignore it…
Your advice please.
Tnx!
WordPress Themes with Google AdSense Ad Channel Support
Google AdSense Ad Channel is not supported with this AdSense theme. This version of Blix with AdSense is quite old now and bits don’t work correctly in WordPress 3.* and I have no plans to fix it.
You are to a degree correct about not answering comments here (I answer the odd one now and again). I’ll reiterate earlier comments, this theme is no longer supported/updated, you are going to run into problems if you use it and I have no plans to update it. If I responded to the comments it would be with something like “this version of Blix is old and no longer works correctly in WordPress 3.*”.
If you are looking for an all singing, all dancing SEO/AdSense theme you’ll need to buy my Talian 05 theme (it’s running on this site and is by far the best WordPress SEO/AdSense them online today, been working on the code for almost 4 years, helps make me around £1,000 a month from AdSense) http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-talian-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html. Talian 05 does come with full AdSense channel support and lots of other features.
Oh, I also have a couple of free AdSense themes on the above site http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/tag/free-adsense-wordpress-theme and since I’m phasing out some of the less popular version 03 AdSense/SEO themes there will be more free ones (that I currently charge for) in the future.

my wordpress web blog can not open theme editor. How can I add new theme.
Blix WordPress Theme Code Bug?
I just wanted to let you know I am using your template on my new blog at . I have replaced most of the Google ads with other ads. I’ve pretty much got it set up how I want now (except I might lose the rest of the Google ads later) and it’s working fine.
The only problem I’ve had was the very bottom of the blog title was cut off in the header and it didn’t display the tagline (not sure if it was supposed to). Anyway, I made the header shorter so it kind of looks like the text is supposed to be cut off where it is. It was just the bottoms of the rounded letters that were cut off.
WordPress SEO Theme Blix with AdSense
I have noticed that when I view a single post or view a category, my sidebar doesn’t display properly. Instead of the normal sidebar, all that shows up is the recent blog posts and links. Everything else is gone.
WordPress Blix Theme Bug Fix
Hi Beth
Glad yo like the theme.
The title header problem was solved in the latest update when I added WordPress 2.5 compatibility (only free AdSense theme I updated on this site BTW, should work fine with WordPress 2.6.3 as well).
The Sidebar issue, I’d guess you’ve edited either the functions.php file or sidebar.php file and made a mistake (very easy to do).
Try uploading the original functions and sidebar files to see if it fixes the issue.

Thank you for your help.
The adsense ads on the home page default to wordpress ads. The post page show ads related to my blog. What should I do in order for the home page to show adsense ads that are relivent to my blog theme?
Hey Greg, it’s possible to insert some code that tells the adsense robots to either bypass or only focus on certain sections of text. It’s covered inside your adsense account.

WordPress SEO Themes
thanks for great theme,
I’m using version 2 on my blog http://excelus.co.cc/
When I try to search for my blog in google and I enter long phrase that is exactly cited on my page, e.g. “Purpose of this workbook is to provide you with easy”, google says no result for this phrase. I just wanna ask: “Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Can I improve my SEO when bypassing this mistake?”
Your help will be appreciated.
Thx, Martin

WordPress Theme Blix Bug Fix
Looks like there might be a bug in the code, had someone post a comment on the Blix version 03 page at http://www.google-adsense-templates.co.uk/wordpress-theme-blix-with-adsense-and-seo-optimisation.html that the sidebar in Firefox drops below the main content!
After spending over 30 mins trying to figure out what was wrong with Blix version 03 I noticed it was a version 02 installation!! Yes, the commenter hadn’t mentioned it was the zip from this page!
When I fixed the Blix code problems to work in WordPress 2.6 it looks like I added a mistake.
I no longer add support for the free themes on this site, so probably won’t fix it (or if I do will take a long time).

Hi I aqm using this theme on my blog, but also I wanted to know if there is anyway you could make this type of theme for a mybb forum but without the adsense ready part
Also i found someone that said they would convert it to mybb for me are they allowed to
I’ve no plans to use this theme as the basis for a forum theme.
I based this theme on the original Blix from http://www.kingcosmonaut.de/blix/ so nothing stopping you using that theme as a basis for a forum theme.
David
Any chance of this being a blogger template type thing also?
Nice theme, whats the click through rate for the standard design.
