Targeting AdSense Ads

December 25th, 2007 at 04:19pm Under Google AdSense

Google AdSense has added the ability for publishers to target their AdSense ads to the content they think best suits their site so ads shown on their sites should only show relevant AdSense ad units.

Many sites have a lot of recurring content: headers, menu, footers and anything else you might find on every page of a site.

This can cause problems for your SERPs (diluting your keyword rich content) and the relevancy of your AdSense ads.

For example this site has a variety of content including a few posts about the World of Warcraft Gold and Leveling guides and I see a lot of ads that match this content on pages that have nothing to do with this content.

Add AdSense to a Wordpress Blog

July 28th, 2006 at 07:36pm Under Google AdSense+ WordPress Themes

As you can see I use the AdSense program on this the More Earnings Blog. This post will explain how other Wordpress users can achieve a similar use of AdSense on their Wordpress blogs.

If you are feeling lazy check out the WordPress Themes category on this site, you’ll find WordPress themes with AdSense already added. Popular themes like Blix, Connections and Almost Spring all with AdSense added.

Update: I now sell WordPress Themes with AdSense/SEO at Google AdSense Themes. These include a file designed for novice WordPress users to set options like ad colour, ad unit sizes, channels, border corners etc… though if your a complete technophobe (like my wife) adding your google_ad_client (the pub-number) is all that’s needed (if you can copy and paste one small line of text you can setup my themes) to have your site have the same level of SEO/AdSense ads you see on my sites like these-

AdSense Revenue

May 8th, 2006 at 12:31pm Under Google AdSense

Time I gave some AdSense tips.

I own a quite a lot of web sites, but most of them are relatively new (like this site as I type this) or not fully developed yet (creating content etc… takes time). Even so I make quite a bit of money from Google’s AdSense program and I expect this to increase significantly over the next 12 months as new sites climb out of the sandbox.

I started with AdSense end of Feb 2004 with my literature sites. I did everything wrong because I didn’t consider AdSense important. So stuck a single AdSense ad on the right menu at the bottom (see heat map below for why it was a mistake) and it’s no surprise revenue sucked (out of 5,000 to 10,000 impressions the sites made just over a dollar at times!!).
