More Earnings Blog Goes Live

I’m an SEO consultant (some call me SEO Dave) with SEO Gold so spend most of my time optimising my own sites, clients sites and researching SEO techniques.

I got into search engine optimization through my first business website, it was an ecommerce Lingerie site (yes I sold sexy Lingerie). In the first year of learning SEO my first site was receiving on average 5,000 visitors per day and peaked at 8,000 visitors per day (was in the top 10 for the Lingerie SERP on all major search engines for example). Unfortunately I used a blackhat SEO technique called link spamming/blog comment spamming that resulted in Google completely banning the site Nov 2003. The sites traffic quickly dropped to around 1,000 visitors per day (most from Yahoo) where it remains to this day.

That taught me a valuable SEO lesson, since without those visitors the business site wasn’t that viable (currently lists affiliate products as I moved on to SEO consulting). So that mistake taught me not to try anything blackhat on important domains.

Since I need to know what will and won’t get a site banned from the various search engines I still do blackhat tests (on unimportant domains), for example I know from an SEO test if you add 1,000s of links to a new domain it won’t rank well ever which is why I never add thousands of text links to a new domain.

I plan to use this blog to discuss SEO techniques and ways to make money on the internet in general since over the last year I’ve gotten into affiliate marketing and there is a LOT of money making opportunities out there. I use Google Adsense on a lot of sites and my best day was $192 (October 24th 2005), so you can quite easily live off your online earnings if you know what you are doing (don’t beleive any of the get rich is 7 days type claims though, they are scams). I’m using the Adsense income to pay for the mortgage on our new house which I’m slowly blogging about the house renovation.
